Visual Arts

Visual Arts at St Patrick’s College, Strathfield, provides students with skills and the experience to navigate an increasingly multi-sensory world. Students are encouraged to investigate and manage multiple modes of learning in a dynamic, collaborative, and academic environment.Ìý

They are given the freedom to explore their strengths and weaknesses and connect theoretical knowledge with practical actions.

Curriculum from Stage 3 to 6 is designed to personally and artistically extended students beyond the rudimentary and satisfactory. Students are continuously challenged and creatively enriched by contemporary art practices. Moving through each curriculum stage students investigate several artmaking forms, ranging from ceramics, photography, painting, printmaking, digital media, drawing and film.Ìý Numerous opportunities are provided to students to showcase and exhibit their artworks via short-term displays, publications, and the Year 12 Major Works evening.

The knowledge, understanding, skills, and values gained from all courses in Visual Arts assist students to manifest their ideas and make real their conceptual intentions. Visual Arts students’ develop critical skills of analysis, reflection, judgement, and appreciation which further enhance a broad range of disciplines, learning areas and future University studies.

Facilities

The Mary MacKillop Building was opened in 2016 and contains a purpose-built Art Centre. The contemporary and spacious facilities allow Visual Arts students to work in a vibrant environment centred around collaboration and foster a sustained studio-based practice.

  • Open plan breakout space
  • Dedicated Digital Media lab
  • Dedicated Senior Art Studio
